Before you start
You'll need two-factor authentication set up on your account. We ask you to confirm it's really you before the check begins, so if you haven't set up 2FA yet, you'll be prompted to do that first.
You'll also need a valid photo ID - a passport, driving licence or national ID card.
1. Open Identity verification
Click your profile icon in the top right of the screen, then click "Identity verification".
2. Confirm it's you
Click "Verify your identity". We'll ask you for a one-time code to confirm your identity before the check starts.
3. Complete the check
You'll be taken through the identity check, where you'll photograph your ID document and take a short selfie. Follow the instructions on screen.
4. Wait for the result
Checks usually complete in a few minutes, but they aren't always instant. While yours is being processed you'll see "Check verification status" on the page — click it to refresh the result.
You can safely leave the page and come back; your check keeps running in the background and the page still shows it in progress when you return.
Once the check completes, your verified legal name is shown on the page. That's it - you don't need to repeat it.
Good to know
You won't be asked again. When a document needs your verified identity - including Advanced (AES) signatures - we use the identity already on your account instead of sending you through the check again.
Your name is filled in for you. Your profile name is completed automatically from your verified identity.
If you abandon a check, you can simply start again from the same page. Nothing is locked.
Your details are kept private. Your document details are stored encrypted and are only visible in your own account.
